TAXI

It was interesting to receive an email from artistic duo Sourav & Suman , collectively known as TAXI . They certainly know how to catch one's attention. The artists are based out of Kolkata , where they create their fairytale inspired , hyperreal , colour intensive images. Their technique involves a tedious process that starts out as a sketch and goes on to full blown photoshoots . These photos are then painted on to give them that painterly quality. While the themes are quite bollywood, they're also reminiscent of times when B&W photographs would be 'coloured in' .

  1. I love this kind of hyper saturated stuff. It gives reality this odd, fuzzy feverish edge.
These remind me so much of that No Doubt video, the one with the fruit trees... (don't speak, I think?)

the bottom pic also reminds of the film Saawariya, albeit mingled with grecian myths with semi-naked sprites amid the mouldering greenery... so lush!

  2. forgot to say, I also love the idea of their process - taking the realistic representation and moving it into fantasy... very nice!

  3. I thought the process was interesting as well - I can't believe it isn't being explored more on the contemporary art scene. As for the resemblance to no doubt/ saawariya imagery , I totally see it.
