About

MASALA CHAI is a creative collective that features South Asian Art & Design from around the world.

Pavitra Mohan 29, hails from Chennai, India . She has a curatorial background with a higher diploma in Arts Management from La Salle College of Fine Arts , Singapore. After spending 4 years studying and working with an artist management firm in Singapore,Pavitra returned to India and explored a handful of options , from working for a non-profit organisation to freelance writing and a short stint with an art gallery. Her passion lies with discovering offbeat talent in the Arts & Design field and thats how MASALA CHAI was born.Pavitra has her finger on the nerve of the country’s culturescape. The website explores a colourful cache of artistic talent that is South Asian.

The idea was to scour the web for sub-continental art that was innovative and broke the 'brown' mold. In 2007 November, the website/ blog was started with a collection of bookmarks and today MASALA CHAI showcases over 350 artists and designers.
