Manjula Padmanabhan

Manjula Padmanabhan is a Delhi based artist, illustrator, cartoonist, playwright and novelist. She has illustrated 21 children's books, and has had a long running cartoon strip, Suki, in the Sunday Observer and later the Pioneers.Images from here. For some reason the etchings seem to have a nostalgic aura about them, yeah?

  1. I love her illustrations. Grew up as a kid, on books illustrated by her. National Book Trust has some lovely titles for kids on subjects like the rainbow and the bazaar. Do check them out if you get the chance.

  2. nostalgia is spot on - before I scrolled down I was thinking these reminded me so much of so many different aspects of my childhood - little comics in papers... and oh that party frock! I have been clad in so many pastel & velvet & satin versions of that!

I can't decide if the finger/elephant is really creepy or not though...
