Manjula Padmanabhan is a Delhi based artist, illustrator, cartoonist, playwright and novelist. She has illustrated 21 children's books, and has had a long running cartoon strip, Suki, in the Sunday Observer and later the Pioneers.Images from here. For some reason the etchings seem to have a nostalgic aura about them, yeah?

I love her illustrations. Grew up as a kid, on books illustrated by her. National Book Trust has some lovely titles for kids on subjects like the rainbow and the bazaar. Do check them out if you get the chance.
ReplyDeletenostalgia is spot on - before I scrolled down I was thinking these reminded me so much of so many different aspects of my childhood - little comics in papers... and oh that party frock! I have been clad in so many pastel & velvet & satin versions of that!

they have such a soft beauty about them. quite nostalgic.

ReplyDeleteVery nostalgic indeed. Even for me i might add. For instance the "party frock" was such a big part of growing up in SL :D I love the tones and the illustration style, esp the "Elephand"....very nice

ReplyDeletei think my grand aunt and manjula's mother studied together. i tagged along during one of their bonding sessions, and got to see this huge beautiful canvas of painted blue pigeons. presumably done by manjula. beautiful.
