Artist Namritha Bachchan comes with a set of preconceived perceptions. For starters, she is Indian born, lived in Switzerland & London & was educated at Rhode Island School of Design & Parsons in New York. An impressive combination for an art education if you ever saw one.
Then comes the little pink elephant in the room, her name . She does infact belong to the illustrious Bachchan family . Grand daughter of the poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, (& niece to you-know-who) this other Bachchan has her own claim to fame. Although she is a poet in her own right, it's her art that captures attention.
& rightly so perhaps. Although she doesn't always get it right, I like the colours. They're nice.
these are gorgeous, esp. "deliverance"! I love the glorious vibrancy! It's nice how she seems to be building on her own talent (I'd be curious about her poetry...) rather than just cashing in on the family name.
ReplyDeleteInteresting work:-) Good to be known by one's work than by one's family name:-)
ReplyDeleteLoving the honeycomb design and the floral patterns forming the head gear:-)
Very chelsea mixed, soho kind art. I had seen these pictures through a friend, but did not take a second look. Now you write it is Ms. Bachan's that's why a second look.
ReplyDeleteWadia Ilyer
Headmistress, Apparently, she is working on illustrating a book of poems by her late Grandfather. But I think she is more of a closet poet.
ReplyDeleteArch, I loved that headgear thing as well & the type.
Wadia, I suppose the Bachchan name isn't easy to get away from eh?
